6 Years, 3 For All Finals, 101 Class!

Posted on

This month the Alchemy Comedy Theater celebrates 6 years of weekly comedy shows! We’ve grown a lot since 2011 and are incredibly thankful for our wonderful performers, staff, and audiences.

The end of September also marks the finale of our annual Three for All tournament! All month long, teams of 3 have competed for laughs, applause, and audience votes. This Saturday at 9pm you can catch the final two teams as they battle it out.

The last 6 years have not only seen a growth in our shows (now 7 a week), there are also more opportunities than ever to learn the art and fun of improvisation! Our next Improv 101 class (no experience necessary) starts Monday, October 9th. From now until Monday, use the promo code “SayYes” to get $50 off registration.

The debut of our new season of teams begins next weekend so get off the couch, come to beautiful downtown Greenville, and laugh!

Since 2011 the Alchemy Comedy Theater has taught hundreds of students the art and the joy of comedy improvisation in our regular 6 week courses. On Saturday, June 3rd we have a condensed all day Improv 101 intensive (9am to 5pm with a lunch break). There is no comedy or theater experience necessary and all students get free admission to shows for the weekend. Those who go through this course will also be eligible to take the Improv 201 intensive the following Sunday to Thursday nights from 6:30-9pm (June 4-8th). These classes are for adults, but we also have a half-day summer camp for kids (ages 8-11) that runs Monday to Friday on June 19th-23rd.

Once a year, the Alchemy Comedy Theater pulls an all-nighter, the Greenville Comedy Marathon! If you like comedy, there’s something in here for you. Offering THIRTY hours of comedy, the Marathon features your Greenville comedy favorites from Alchemy Comedy, No Expectations Comedy, Laughing Stock Improv, and visiting guests from across the Upstate!

We’re also continuing the tradition of challenging four brave comedians to attempt the totally possible – 12 shows in 12 hours, overnight from Midnight-Noon! This year’s All-Nighter Cast includes Wendy Pisor, Stacey Cherubini, Nico Estevez, and Nate Oulette, and for the first time we are offering a special challenge to our fans – attend all 12 hours of the All-Nighter challenge, and you could win a spot in our next Improv 101 class! Think you can last?

For a full list of shows check out our Facebook event or head over to Eventbrite to reserve your seat. Individual tickets are available for all shows, or see every show in the marathon—and save $75—with a 30 Hour Pass! Shows from Midnight to Noon are FREE!

And of course, with 7 shows every week, there are plenty of chances to get off your couch and laugh!

‘Tis the Season for Holiday Comedy!

Purchase your tickets online without any bah humbug fees

Along with our regular 6 shows a week, this month the Alchemy Comedy Theater is hosting more holiday sketch comedy shows than you can fit under a tree! Once each weekend in December (3rd, 10th, 17th, and 23rd at 9pm) Alchemy’s all-star sketch comedy brings you “It’s a Wonderful Laugh”, our very  own scripted holiday special.

We also have two special, one-time-only guest shows from Charleston, SC. The first (Thursday, Dec 8th) is from writer and comedian, Hunter Gardner. Inspired by a true (drinking) story, “Drinking With Jesus” is a comedy that asks the audience, “How do we find a balance between our virtues and our vices?” Written and performed by recovering churchaholic Hunter Gardner, the one-hour show is composed of character monologues and painfully true moments that remind us about how alcohol can make you do crazy things—and that religion can make you do some even crazier things. A story for Bible readers and beer chuggers alike, “Drinking With Jesus” offers audiences an hour of holy hilarious fun with big characters and big laughs. Read more about in this wonderful write up from the Greenville Journal.

med225The second special guest (Friday, Dec 9th) from Charleston, SC is from performer and Theatre 99 faculty member, Andy Livengood. His One Man Version of Every Christmas Special You Have Ever Seen (almost) has been running for 8 years in Charleston and was Voted “Best Play of 2011” by the readers of the Charleston City Paper. Andy is at his parent’s house for their annual Christmas Eve party. It’s one of those fun types of holiday parties with no music, no booze and dad reading chapters from the Bible. There is only one way not to run screaming from the house – immerse yourself in Christmas TV specials. Andy has watched every Christmas themed TV show and movie so many times he knows most of them by heart and he’ll break them down for you. Oh yeah, this is a one man version of Charlie Brown, The Grinch, and Ebenezer Scrooge like you’ve never seen them before. Drop the kids off at grandma’s because nothing’s sacred in this high-energy romp through all of the holiday classics.
