April 16th Improv 101: Introduction to Scenework

Posted on Updated on

After selling out our last Improv 101 in March, we’ve opened up another session. So far our students have been a varying mix of entrepreneurs and engineers, those who want to perform and those who just want to work on public speaking and collaboration skills. Here’s the basic description from our classes page:

The head instructor Harrison Brookie is a trained educator who has spent several years teaching public high school. He was also a resident instructor under Zach Ward at the DSI Comedy Theater in NC, which has heavily inspired our style and curriculum.

Each class runs once a week, for six weeks from 6:30-9:00pm. There is no comedy or theater experience necessary and all students get free admission to Alchemy Comedy shows while they are enrolled in a class.

This introductory class will teach you the basic framework for doing comedic scenes. The focus will be on the fundamentals of agreement, relationship, character, and environment. You can register for the class online. If you have any questions call (864) 256-1467 or fill out this form and we’ll contact you!

8:00PM – Improv 101 Student Showcase

Alchemy Improv Comedy is committed to teaching the art of improv comedy and this week features a very special early show featuring the students of Alchemy Improv Comedy Training Center. After completing 6 weeks of Improv 101, these comedians are ready to show off their skills.

Their showcase will be a series of simple scenes and short form improv games. Be sure to be there early to support students of comedy! You could even see what is possible if  you take our next Improv 101 starting March 1st.

9:30PM – Local Legends with Stories from Michael Robinette

Then our regularly scheduled mainstage show begins with guest storyteller local stand-up comedian Michael Robinette. Because he participated in Improv Meets Stand-up show in November, this is the second time Michael has graced the Alchemy Comedy stage. Only this time it’s personal.

Instead of stand-up comedy, Michael will be sharing stories from his personal life to inspire improv comedy. With his unique brand of comedy, Michael has performed all across the Southeast and is a regular at No Expectations open mic night.

Two great shows and each for only $5. So be sure not to miss out. Doors for each show open 30 minutes before.

Jan 27: Writer, Producer, and Director Jeff Sumerel

We are exited to say our guest storyteller this week is famed Greenville writer, producer, and director Jeff Sumerel. He’s toured the country while being featured at such places as the Charlotte Film Festival, Utah Film Festival, River Run Film Festival, The Lafayette Museum, and The Baltimore Film & Video Festival. Jeff is also well known in South Carolina for his teamup with previous Alchemy guest Chris White for their documentary on the 100-year football rivalry between Clemson and the University of S.C. entitled “Bragging Rites”.

As an extra treat we will also have guest improviser Cameron Duncan sitting in the cast. As usual, because it’s improvised, this show has never been seen before and will never be seen again. So be sure not to miss this completely inspired improv comedy show in the heart of downtown Greenville.
