Along with our regular 6 shows a week, this month the Alchemy Comedy Theater is hosting more holiday sketch comedy shows than you can fit under a tree! Once each weekend in December (3rd, 10th, 17th, and 23rd at 9pm) Alchemy’s all-star sketch comedy brings you “It’s a Wonderful Laugh”, our very  own scripted holiday special.

We also have two special, one-time-only guest shows from Charleston, SC. The first (Thursday, Dec 8th) is from writer and comedian, Hunter Gardner. Inspired by a true (drinking) story, “Drinking With Jesus” is a comedy that asks the audience, “How do we find a balance between our virtues and our vices?” Written and performed by recovering churchaholic Hunter Gardner, the one-hour show is composed of character monologues and painfully true moments that remind us about how alcohol can make you do crazy things—and that religion can make you do some even crazier things. A story for Bible readers and beer chuggers alike, “Drinking With Jesus” offers audiences an hour of holy hilarious fun with big characters and big laughs. Read more about in this wonderful write up from the Greenville Journal.

med225The second special guest (Friday, Dec 9th) from Charleston, SC is from performer and Theatre 99 faculty member, Andy Livengood. His One Man Version of Every Christmas Special You Have Ever Seen (almost) has been running for 8 years in Charleston and was Voted “Best Play of 2011” by the readers of the Charleston City Paper. Andy is at his parent’s house for their annual Christmas Eve party. It’s one of those fun types of holiday parties with no music, no booze and dad reading chapters from the Bible. There is only one way not to run screaming from the house – immerse yourself in Christmas TV specials. Andy has watched every Christmas themed TV show and movie so many times he knows most of them by heart and he’ll break them down for you. Oh yeah, this is a one man version of Charlie Brown, The Grinch, and Ebenezer Scrooge like you’ve never seen them before. Drop the kids off at grandma’s because nothing’s sacred in this high-energy romp through all of the holiday classics.
