Friday November 15th
8:00PM – Improv 501: Student Showcase and Dolls & Guys: Puppet Improv ($5)
The first show this weekend is the graduates of our Improv 501 class. 501 is a class introducing students to the many formats of long-form improv. Friday they’ll be performing the form Vignettes, a series of stories in the style of improvised short films. Rounding out the 8 o’clock show will be Dolls and Guys, a two person show with two improvisers and a box of puppets where anything can happen, no strings attached.
Friday’s second show features the all-star cast of Local Legends doing improv based on the stories of a local celebrity. This week features a return guest, Emily Reach White. Emily is a writer, teacher, and filmmaker working on short and feature films with her husband and writing partner, Chris White. In 2012 they released a microbudget feature film called GET BETTER which is loosely based on her father’s fight with late-stage Lyme disease, also the subject of her TEDx Greenville talk earlier this year. Come out and see improv based on true stories from Emily Reach White!
Saturday November 16th
7:30PM – Improv 101: Student Showcase and Kennedy + Paula ($5)
Our early show on Saturday is the student showcase for our most recent Improv 101 students. This introductory course teaches the basics of improv scenes to students and provides even total novices with the skills to create fun and solid improv scenes. Come see the students of 101 take the stage as some of them perform for the first time. Then stick around for our guests Kennedy and Paula from DSI in Carrboro, NC in their 2 person show, Kennedy + Paula.
At 9 o’clock this Saturday, Alchemy premieres a brand new series pitting elite performers against rotating challengers. CageMatch is a clashing of two improv teams showcasing their talent for audience votes. The winner moves on to become the champion for the next CageMatch, competing against a new challenger.
This week’s champion is Pound for Pound (#4#) : As a pair of improvisers, Paula Pazderka and Harrison Brookie are perfectly balanced, in every sense of the word. Come see them match and complement one another, as they go to any ends to tip the scales in your favor.
This week’s challenger is 3’s Co. : Unlike the sitcom, this house of three is made up of Jason Underwood, Ben Burris and Meg Pierson as GIRL. This high-class team will be performing scenes based on candid couple interviews, making no attempts to hide the fun from Mr. Roper.
