This Friday’s 8pm show is Alchemy Comedy’s players in Dual Duel. Two duos in a head-to-head comedy competition for points and your laughs. We’ll have some familiar games like those featured on the show Whose Line Is It Anyway?, as well as some Alchemy favorites. In this week’s show it’s Wendy and Catherine on the Blue Team vs Andrew and Joe on the Red Team. Come out and help decide who walks away a victor, and who simply walks away. You may have seen improv games before, but you probably haven’t seen it like this!

9:30PM – Local Legends with stories from Keri Lumm of OneMinuteNews ($8)

At 9:30 stories from a guest inspire scenes from the all-star cast of Local Legends. This week, see scenes based on stories from OneMinuteNews anchor Keri Lumm. OneMinuteNews is an online channel that broadcasts “quick, conversational news” head-quartered here in Greenville. When Keri is not writing and producing her own 60 second reports on news, entertainment, and women’s issues she is acting in short films like the award-winning Dobra Ojca,  produced by friends of the theater Paris MTN Scout. Later this summer you can see her star in a short film called Fully Detached along with Alchemy’s own Ben Burris. Come out for the real-life stories of this OneMinuteNewswoman and sixty hilarious minutes of live improvised comedy.

9:30PM – Local Legends with stories from musician Sarah Clanton Schaffer

At 9:30 stories from a guest inspire scenes from the all-star cast of Local Legends. This week, see scenes based on the stories from Sarah Clanton Schaffer. Sarah is a classically trained cellist with a love for rock and jazz. Her passionate playing and soulful voice combine to bring a new dimension to her collaborations with other up-and-coming indie rockers like The David Mayfield Parade. Her debut solo album Chasin’ a Feeling drops August 1st, though you can look on her website for pre-order sales (as well as upcoming live shows). This Friday see a full hour of improv scenes based on the stories of this Greenville-based, head-banging, cello-rocker.

The school manager Harrison Brookie is a trained educator who has spent several years teaching public high school. He was also a resident instructor under Zach Ward at the DSI Comedy Theater in NC, which has heavily inspired our style and curriculum. Since then Harrison has served as the Artistic Director of the Alchemy Comedy Theater.

Each class runs once a week, for six weeks from 6:30-9:00pm. There is no comedy or theater experience necessary and all students get free admission to all Alchemy shows while they are enrolled in a class.

This introductory class will teach you the basic framework for doing comedic scenes. The focus will be on the fundamentals of agreement, relationship, character, environment, and fearlessness. 8:00PM – Them Again! performs improv based on short films from GVIFF ($10)

Alchemy’s newest house team, created by graduates of the improv 501 class, is Them Again! This Friday marks their first show; a crossover event with the Greenville International Film Festival. In conjunction with the Friday night block of films in the film festival, Them Again! will perform a series of scenes based on each of the short films in the “Humor” category. Come out to see a one of-a-kind mash-up event of short films and long-form improv live (kind of) at Coffee Underground! Also there will be swag!

9:30PM – Local Legends with stories from Michael Robinson($8)

Friday’s second show features the all-star cast of Local Legends doing improv based on the stories of Michael Robinson. Michael is the organizer for TEDx FurmanU 2014 : Stories. TEDx events are local, self-organized events to share what the TED organization calls “ideas worth spreading.” Next year’s TEDx FurmanU centers around the theme of stories as motivations, as inspirations, and ideas that move us.  It only seems fitting that the true-life stories from this ambitious young man will be the inspiration for this week’s Local Legends.

This week introducing the newest cast-member of Local Legends: Lena Roper!

This Friday will feature a special 8pm show featuring students from Southside High School. To celebrate the end of the school year, Alchemy Comedy is hosting the award winning Southside High School Speech and Debate team. The very best students will perform their favorite comedic pieces in this must see showcase.  Half of the proceeds of this show will go to the SHS Speech and Debate team.

9:30PM – Local Legends with stories from Erickson Bynum ($8)

At 9:30 stories from a guest inspire scenes from the all-star cast of Local Legends. This week, see scenes based on the true stories from SHS Speech and Debate coach Erickson Bynum. Under the direction of Mr. Erickson Bynum, the Southside Forensic Team is now a nationally recognized speech and debate team, excelling in both fields of speech and debate.  In June 2009 during the NFL National Tournament in Birmingham, Alabama, Southside Forensics was recognized and honored as a School of Excellence. Come out to both shows and see the impressive growth since, and laugh. Don’t forget to laugh.

At 9:30 stories from a guest inspire scenes from the all-star cast of Local Legends. This week, see scenes based on the stories of Downtown Presbyterian pastor Brian Habig. Brian grew up in Mississippi and went to Covenant Theological Seminary after graduating from Mississippi State. While Brian has been pastor of Downtown Presbyterian the church has partnered with several organizations including Homes of Hope, providing safe, affordable, and energy-efficient housing for low-income and/or homeless families or individuals. This Friday, all proceeds of Local Legends will be donated to Homes of Hope. Come out, laugh, and support a great cause.

Local Legends will feature special guest player Katie Jones, co-founder of Clemson University’s Mock Turtle Soup and Wishbone Theater Collective.

8:00PM –  Improv 101 and 501 Student Showcase ($5)

Our first show this Friday features the graduates of our most recent Improv 101 and Improv 501 classes. They’ve spent weeks learning and preparing for this moment. Come out this week and support them as they take new skills to the stage for the first time. 9:30PM – Local Legends with stories from our 101 and 501 Students ($8)

In Local Legends a guest from a local business, project, or other person of note is invited to come tell their stories as inspiration for a series of improvised scenes. This week, we have brought you an eclectic mix of some of the most eccentric, inspirational, quirky, and odd members of the Upstate, our students. Normally, one guest tells five 2-minute stories to inspire scenes, but this week the name of one student from our 8 o’clock showcase will be randomly drawn at each story break. Come out to be entertained, and for a chance to get to know our students better than we do.

Alchemy Improv Comedy is committed to teaching the art of improv comedy throughout the Greenville area. Whether you or your student are interested in performing or simply working on communication and collaboration skills for the real world, these comedy classes are for you! There is no comedy or theater experience necessary, so classes are not divided by experience, but by age. Here are the 3 summer classes are offer:

Kids Improv 101 (Ages 8-11): Here students will learn the basics of our Improv 101 class specifically tailored for kids. Improv 101 is an introduction to improvising a scene. This class will focus on the fundamentals of agreement, relationship, character, and environment. This class runs Monday-Friday June 24th-28th, 12:30pm-3:30pm. There will also be a student showcase on the final day of class.

Youth Improv 101 (Ages 11-14): Here students will learn the basics of our Improv 101 class specifically tailored for youth. Improv 101 is an introduction to improvising a scene. This class will focus on the fundamentals of agreement, relationship, character, and environment. This class runs Monday-Friday June 24th-28th, 12:30pm-3:30pm. There will also be a student showcase on the final day of class.

Adult Improv Intensives (Adults only): Here students will learn the basics of our improv classes. The first level will focus on the fundamentals of agreement, relationship, character, and environment as well as scene pattern recognition, creation, and heightening. This class runs Saturday, June 8th, 9:00am-5:00pm.
