Friday, October 9th
7:30PM – Unscripted theatrical improv comedy
Every Friday at 7:30pm Alchemy Comedy Theater features two completely improvised comedy teams. From a single suggestion, the performers will create an entire world right before your eyes. This week will be house teams Homage (improvised movie) and Harry (improvised Harold).
Alchemy’s flagship comedy show (going strong for 4 years) is Local Legends. Each night, a different guest “local legend” (person of note) tells their own “local legends” (personal stories) to inspire this fully improvised show. This Friday’s guests are well known actors, directors, teachers Anne and Jayce Tromsness.
Saturday, October 10th
King of the Mountain is a full on comedy battle royale featuring several veteran Alchemy players competing for points and your laughs. You may have seen some games like this on “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”, but here the points matter. It’s a head to head (to head to head to head to head to head to head) tournament where players are eliminated, dreams are made, and one is named comedy king for the evening.
Every Saturday this year we’ve hosted a Sketch Review. This was a make-shift scripted comedy show. However, for October we are putting together some of our favorite sketches from the year into one finished show. Some pieces are poignant and some are political. Some are serious and some are absurd. Some are musical and some are silent. It’s everything you would expect from a formal sketch revue.
Starting this Friday, September 4th, our first annual 3 on 3 improv tournament, Three for All. Trios of improvisers will compete for your laughs and your votes. Winners move on to the semi-finals and finals the first weekend in October.
This is followed by our regular Friday 9pm show, Local Legends. Friday, September 4th is Doug Cone of Servosity and Synergy Mill. For a full list of future and past guests go to the Local Legends page.
Starting this month is our Saturday run of our “Favorites” sketch show. Our best scripted scenes from the last 2 years put together for your enjoyment.
Our fall Improv 101 class starts August 11th! Since 2011 Alchemy has been committed to teaching the art of improv comedy throughout the Greenville area. Whether you are interested in performing and joining our company, or simply working on communication and collaboration in the real world, these comedy classes are for you. Each class runs once a week, for six weeks from 6:30-9:00pm. There is no comedy or theater experience necessary and all students get free admission to Alchemy Comedy shows while they are enrolled in a class.
Along with our usual Friday and Saturday shows, we have a special guest show this Saturday at 9pm. Charleston’s sketch comedy darlings are on the road to Greenville. Fresh off their run at the Piccolo Fringe Festival, Nameless Numberhead dives right into their new show: Regular Comedy for Insane People. You’ll get wacky characters, you’ll get silly scenario’s, you’ll get moments of quiet reflection, and just maybe – you’ll learn something about yourself. All of this is wrapped up in a nice and digestible hour long show. They are also teaching a sketch comedy workshop from 4-6pm that day. No previous experience required!
As always we have 4 great shows next weekend. One of them on Saturday at 9pm, our all-lady Femmeprov team will be raising money for the Susan G. Komen’s efforts to eradicate breast cancer through funded research and patient and family support. 50% of all proceeds go to charity. Come out and support ladies supporting ladies!
This Friday at 7:30pm features stand-up comedy from Asheville’s Tom Scheve. Tom has performed at the Laugh Your Asheville Off comedy festival, Cape Fear Comedy Festival, Scruffy City Comedy Festival and was a finalist in the 2013 Rocky Top Comedy Competition. Tom has enjoyed working with the likes of Joe DeRosa, Ryan Singer, Tim Northern, Joe Zimmerman, Tom Simmons and Jarrod Harris, among others. Tom has also produced hundreds of shows under the “Disclaimer Comedy” banner. This show will feature Nick Murphy, along with Andrew Van. Then at 9pm for Local Legends, Tom will be telling true stories to inspire improv.
On July 21st a very special Tuesday comedy showcase will host stand-up comedy show from Stewart Huff (featuring Krish Mohan). Nationally Touring Comedian, Stewart Huff is on the road across the Midwest and the South. Stewart has performed in Comedy Clubs, Theaters, Bars, College across all 50 states and is bringing his unique & honest brand of comedy to Greenville. He has been featured in the documentary “Road Comics: Big Work on Small Stages” and was a writer for Adult Swim on Cartoon Network. Just a few days later on July 23rd, there will be a comedy double header on Thursday. Following an improv student showcases at 7:30pm, we are hosting stand-up comedy from the “Carolina’s Funniest Comic” Finalists Tour. Right in the middle of their Southeast tour (GA, SC, NC, VA) the finalists from our annual comedy competition can all be seen together. Chad Cosby (Carrboro, NC), Mike Brocki (Charleston, SC), and Jason Farr (Greenville, SC) will rock your Carolina.
