New South Comedy Festival this Week!

ALCH_NS_Web_Logo_Color_LargeThis Wednesday to Saturday, November 5-8th, will feature over 80 out-of-town improv, stand-up, sketch, and musical comedy guests from NYC, Chicago, Minneapolis, Atlanta, Richmond, Chapel Hill, Charleston, Raleigh, Wilmington, Charlotte, and here in Greenville, SC. All shows will take place at the Alchemy Comedy Theater located at 1 East Coffee Street Greenville, SC. Seating is limited, it is suggested you pre-purchase tickets. The full show schedule is below:

October Improv, Sketch, and Stand-up Shows So Awesome It’s Scary

Friday, October 24th

At 7:30pm our two newest teams Harry and Hal will debut alongside a Halloween inspired Bat, improv in the dark. Then at 9pm Local Legends with Phyllis and Joshua Jackson, the Creator and Director of The First Five Years sitcom. Come hear their stories about life and making local productions and then watch the all-star cast create improv magic!

Saturday, October 25th

Early show features our weekly King of the Mountain improv competition. Then at 9pm our first Sketch Comedy show of the season!


Saturday, November 1st

Following our weekly King of the Mountain improv competition will be a very special Saturday [Sabbath] Local Legends with Rabbi Marc Wilson the Founder of Year of Altruism. Marc has served as a congregational rabbi for three decades, holding pulpits in Chicago, Atlanta, Charlotte and Greenville. And in he’ll be our very first Saturday storyteller to inspire an entirely improvised show!

Friday June 27th

King of the Mountain7:30PM – King of the Mountain: Competitive Improv Games ($8)

It’s a full on comedy battle royale! Eight players competing for points and your laughs. You may have seen some games like this on “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”, but here the points matter. It’s a head to head tournament where players are eliminated, dreams are made, and one is named comedy king for the evening. This week come out and watch a man vs man vs man vs man vs man vs man comedy competition. Show up and help crown this week’s champion.

9:00PM – Local Legends with stories from Dana Swarner ($10)Dana Swarner

Friday’s second show features the all-star cast of Local Legends doing improv based on stories from Toastmasters‘ Speakers Bureau Chair for District 58. Speakers Bureau is an organization within Toastmasters that connects Toastmaster Speakers and organizations looking for experienced speakers. Dana is an experienced storyteller within the Toastmasters organization and a professional piano and voice instructor,  as well as Speakers Bureau Chair for 2013-2014. This week, Dana’s true stories will inspire an entirely improvised show in Local Legends.

Saturday June 28th

Dual Duel7:30PM – Dual Duel: Competitive Improv Games ($8)

Now in it’s regular time, this Saturday’s 7:30 show is Alchemy Comedy’s players in Dual Duel. Two duos in a head-to-head comedy competition for points and your laughs. There will be a mix of familiar games like those featured on the show Whose Line Is It Anyway?, some Alchemy favorites, and a lot of suggestions from the audience.  Every week features the Red team vs. the Blue team vying for your affections. Come out and help decide who walks away a victor, and who simply walks away. You may have seen improv games before, but you probably haven’t seen it like this!

9:00PM – Stand-up Comedy Showcase with Minori Hinds (featuring Kelly Rowland) ($10)minori-comedy-pic-199x300

Saturday’s late show is a stand-up comedy showcase featuring some great comics from the region.

Headlining the night is Asheville comic, Minori Hinds. “She delivers her droll, multicultural perspective on anything from biscuits to psychology, delighting audiences in Denver, Atlanta, Greenville, and all over the Southeast.”

This showcase also features fellow Asheville comic Kelly Rowland.

June 20th/21st Harold Night! Greenvillager! Local Legends with Jacob Farley!

One of Alchemy’s goals is to connect the Greenville improv community with the larger world of improvisational comedy. Originally created by one of the founders of modern improv in Chicago, the Harold dates back to the 1960s and has maintained status as one of the oldest and most popular improv formats. Alchemy Comedy’s Harold Night is a bi-weekly showcase of Alchemy’s Harold teams. This week’s show features Harold and Harry.

9:00PM – Local Legends with stories from Jacob Farley ($10)

At Friday’s 9 o’clock show, stories from a guest inspire scenes from the all-star cast of Local Legends. This week, see scenes based on the stories from cancer survivor, Jacob Farley.

Saturday June 21st

7:30PM – Dual Duel: Competitive Improv Comedy  ($8)

This Saturday’s 7:30pm show is Alchemy Comedy’s players in Dual Duel. Two duos in a head-to-head comedy competition for points and your laughs. There will be a few familiar games like those featured on the show Whose Line Is It Anyway?, as well as some Alchemy originals. In this week’s show it’s Lena and Harrison on the Blue Team vs Wendy and Nicole on the Red Team. Come out and help decide who walks away a victor, and who simply walks away. You may have seen improv games before, but since it’s all made up on the spot, you’ve definitely never seen this show!

9:00PM – Homage: Improvised Movie AND Greenvillager: Improv inspired by the News ($10)

Homage is a thematic improvised show. Everything from Shakespeare to Alfred Hitchcock and everything in between, this team take a classic style and creates an entirely new world. New characters, new conflicts, same familiar themes.

Fresh off the presses it’s Greenvillager! Our newest improv show featuring all-star improvisers performing scenes inspired by news stories. Players begin the show tearing up the day’s local newspaper for stories, articles, and thinkpieces to inspire a full-length, improvised show.
