February 7th/8th: Harold Night, Homage, KOTM and SC’s Funniest Comic

One of Alchemy’s goals is to connect the Greenville improv community with the larger world of improvisational comedy. Originally created by one of the founders of modern improv in Chicago, the Harold dates back to the 1960s and has maintained status as one of the oldest and most popular improv formats. Alchemy Comedy’s Harold Night is a monthly showcase of Alchemy’s two Harold teams. This month also features another house team, Homage Presents: Improvised Movie.  Three amazing shows, one fun-packed hour.

9:00PM – South Carolina’s Funniest Comic: Semi-Finals ($10)CFC

In a partnership with DSI Comedy in Carborro, NC, Carolina’s Funniest Comic now consists of a North Carolina and South Carolina bracket before the champion is crowned at the NC Comedy Arts Festival in February. Alchemy is hosting the South Carolina competition the Semi-Finals are this Friday with the 6 winners of Round 2. Each comic gets 9 minutes, and at the end of the night you -the audience- vote for the top 4 comics to move on to the South Carolina Finals. Check the list below for Friday’s performers:

Saturday February 8th

King of the Mountain

7:30 PM – King of the Mountain: Competitive Improv Games ($8)

It’s a full on comedy battle royale! Eight players competing for points and your laughs. You may have seen some games like this on “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”, but here the points matter. It’s a head to head tournament where players are eliminated, dreams are made, and one is named comedy king for the evening. This week you can watch Andrew, Harrison, Brad, Griffin, Darren, Andy, Miguel, and Harry fight for your laughs, votes , and entertainment. Come out and help crown this week’s champion.

9:00PM – South Carolina’s Funniest Comic: Finals ($10)CFC

In a partnership with DSI Comedy in Carborro, NC, Carolina’s Funniest Comic now consists of a North Carolina and South Carolina bracket before the champion is crowned at the NC Comedy Arts Festival in February. This Saturday Alchemy hosts the SC’s Funniest Comic Final Round. Each comic will have 12 minutes to showcase their material and then your votes will determine who wins SC’s Funniest Comic, and the top 2 performers to compete for Carolina’s Funniest Comic in Carborro, NC. The four performers for the Finals will be determined Friday night in the Semi-Finals.

This Friday’s 7:30pm show is Alchemy Comedy’s players in Dual Duel. Two duos in a head-to-head comedy competition for points and your laughs. There will be a few familiar games like those featured on the show Whose Line Is It Anyway?, as well as some Alchemy originals.  In this week’s show it’s Ben and Griffin on the Blue Team vs Wendy and Andrew on the Red Team. Come out and help decide who walks away a victor, and who simply walks away. You may have seen improv games before, but since it’s all made up on the spot, you’ve definitely never seen this show!

Homage7:30PM –  Listeners Like You and Homage: Improvised Movie($8)

Friday’s early show displays the talents of several of Alchemy’s performers including the house team Homage, with their show the Improvised Movie. A half-hour set in the style of your favorite movies based on a single suggestion from the audience.

Listeners Like YouOpening for Homage is a throwback to March of 2012. NPR gets its support from their audience, as do the members of Alchemy’s soft-spoken, hard-hitting radio duo, Listeners Like You. A radio show and the behind the nitty-gritty behind the scenes are created for you before your eyes. No totebags, but a hilarious show is its own reward.

Come out for two teams making up one great show!

Alchemy’s training center has been educating Upstate residents and training up new performers since January of 2012. In those two years we’ve grown from four people to more than twenty-four. Friday’s 7:30 show will be a company-wide improv-jam with short-form games performed by new faces and old side-by-side. Come out and see a fun show as well as the wide range of talent on display at Alchemy Comedy week after week, month after month, and year after year.
