Friday April 11th
7:30PM – Improv 201 Student Showcase and Bens with Frenefits ($8)
Our first show this Friday features the graduates of our most recent Improv 201: Intro to Scene Patterns. They’ve spent weeks learning and preparing for this moment. Come out this week and support them as they take new skills to the stage for the first time. Rounding out the 7:30 is Ben Burris and Benny Parks as Bens with Frenefits. If you think an improv class sounds like fun and you want to learn more about our training center, you can find more information here. Our next Improv 101 class begins April 29th.
9:00PM – Local Legends with stories from the members of our Students ($10)
In Local Legends a guest from a local business, project, or other person of note is invited to come tell their stories as inspiration for a series of improvised scenes. This week, we have brought you some of the most eclectic, inspirational, unique, and fun members of the Upstate, our students. Normally, one guest tells five 2-minute stories to inspire scenes, but this week the name of one student from our 8 o’clock showcase will be randomly drawn at each story break. Come out to be entertained, and for a chance to get to know our students better than we do.
Saturday April 12th
7:30PM – Guests from Theatre 99:Lords of Thunder and Alchemy’s Slimprov ($8)
Occasionally Alchemy brings in guests from all over to connect the theater with the improv community at large, and this week we’ve brought you some friends from the coast. Lords of Thunder is a two man show from Charleston, SC’s Theatre 99. Taking a name from the audience, they reminisce over the name and then use the stories of family members, friends, roommates and ex’s to create a dynamic mono scene. Rounding out the early show is the recent champions of the 2014 March Madness CageMatch competition: Slimprov. Two half-men make a full stage when Harrison Brookie and Ben Burris take a single suggestion from the audience to inspire one 25-minute scene.
9:00PM – Scared Setless and Scared Scriptless ($10)
At 9 o’clock you are in for a treat. Starting off the hour is Scared Setless. Comics will abandon their pre-written jokes and must instead do entirely improvised jokes based on prompts they’re seeing for the first time with the audience.
In the second half of our show, stand-up comics from the first half will perform real, 2-person stage plays with an improviser. The comic will be reading one character’s dialogue from an actual script that their improviser scene-partner has never seen before. What may be many actors’ nightmare, we call Scared Scriptless.
If you’ve never seen these shows before, you’re in for a lot of fun, and since these shows are made up on the spot, you’ve never seen these shows before.
